When you open your bottle of Rosemary Essential Oil, you might expect to smell something similar to the herb we all know and love so much. But you would be wrong! Rosemary has a much more camphorous, fresh and crisp aroma that is stimulating and warm. The 1,8 Cineole content, an essential oil constituent, makes this oil particularly well suited for respiratory issues. This constituent is also prevalent in Eucalyptus, Niaouli, Camphor, and Balm Mint Bush (all of which are known for their respiratory benefits). But Rosemary has so much more to offer than just better breathing. Let’s look at everything this fresh essential oil brings to the table.
Hair Growth & Scalp Health
Spend any amount of time in the essential oil world and you’ll probably hear that Rosemary is great for hair. While there are several essential oils that will help with issues like shine or dandruff, Rosemary is at the top of the list when it comes to hair loss. According to a couple of studies, Rosemary was able to promote hair growth in those suffering from DHT-related hair loss (aka… male pattern baldness). It’s important to know the results did take up to 6 months for noticeable improvement. So if you decide to use Rosemary for hair, know that it’ll take some time.
One of the easiest ways to use Rosemary Essential Oil for hair is to add it to an unscented shampoo. We recommend using no more than a 1% dilution for regular daily use, and it helps keep the shampoo from breaking down. You can also combine Rosemary with other hair and scalp-loving essential oils like Cedarwood and Lavender to promote healthy hair. Try diluting Rosemary in a carrier oil like Argan and massaging onto the scalp, at least 10 minutes before shampooing your hair. For a slightly less greasy option, you can even incorporate a few spritzes of Rosemary Hydrosol into your hair care routine.
DIY Hair Growth Scalp Massage Oil
If you’re committed to helping boost your hair growth, we’ve got you covered. This simple DIY can be incorporated into your hair care routine. Plus if you have more time, be sure to incorporate a good scalp massage as research suggests that even that extra stimulation can help with hair growth. For those with longer hair, you can even use more of this oil to coat your hair strands and let it add some extra moisture.
What you’ll need:
1 oz Jojoba Carrier Oil
1 oz Argan Carrier Oil
20 drops Rosemary
8 drops Lavender
8 drops Himalayan Cedarwood
What you’ll do:
Combine essential oils in the carrier oils. Pour a small amount into your palm and massage onto your scalp at least 10 minutes before shampooing. Use 2-3 times per week.
Better Breathing & Clear Concentration
As we already mentioned, the 1,8 Cineole content in Rosemary Essential Oil makes it a great choice to help whenever you’re feeling stuffed up, allergies are especially bad, or seasonal illnesses are making the rounds. Use Rosemary in a clearing diffuser blend, a personal inhaler, or even diluted in a carrier oil for a chest rub.
Rosemary is also incredibly stimulating to the senses. In addition to clearing your breathing, it can help improve focus, boost memory retention and keep you alert. Next time you have a study session or big work project, keep Rosemary nearby to help keep your brain at its best.
Warmth for Sore Muscles
Like many herbaceous oils, Rosemary is warming when applied topically and helpful with sore muscles and inflammation. It can help increase circulation and provide warmth to the skin and underlying muscles. Dilute it to as much as 4% in a carrier oil or lotion and massage onto your sore muscles after a long day or hard workout. It can also be added to an unscented body wash, combined with Epsom salts, and poured into the bath for a truly exceptional soak.
